On Twitter, President Donald Trump announced that he will soon present the "most dishonest" and "corrupt media awards" on January 8. Tweeting on Tuesday, Trump declared: "I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5:00 o’clock." He added, "Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!"

It was in late November that the president suggested that he would open a "fake news trophy" contest. He tweeted then: "We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me)." He wrote: "They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!"

In an email to supporters, the Trump-Pence Make America Great Again Committee asked donors to name the worst "fake news story" of 2017. For its part, the Rasmussen polling organization surveyed American voters, of which 40 percent think that Fox News should win the 'fake news trophy.'
