Sailors and other personnel are coming out of a Naval hospital in San Diego after officials called for lockdown when an anonymous caller reported an active shooter inside a building with other gunmen possibly on the way. Law enforcement officers and canine teams have gone to Building One on the medical campus and continue to search the facility. The have found three unspent rounds of ammunition.

The call appeared to match another such report of a patient seen with a weapon, according to a Defense Department official quoted by local media. Personnel were order to shelter in place during the police respohnse. A child care center on campus was also on lock down, while traffice has been diverted.

In January, a similar report of an active shooter at the same hospital turn out to be a false alarm. At that time, officials also searched the buildings with dogs but found no evidence of a shooter or shots fired.

Known as the Bob Wilson Naval Hospital and located on the grounds of Balboa Park in San Diego, the facility provides advanced treatment and as a teaching and research center. About 500 people work there.

This morning hospital spokesman Brian O'Rourke said "Investigators have thoroughly searched the building and not found anything yet." He said, "They are going floor by floor, it's not a quick operation." Personnel from the Department of Defense, Naval Criminal Investigative Service and San Diego police are assisting, in addition to a SWAT team was there.

On a Facebook page, Naval officials wrote a "code white" message, stating:

"A caller to the hospital reported seeing an armed man on 4-West. No shots have been fired. Security is investigating. As a measure of precaution staff are sheltering in place - staff and patients en route to NMCSD are advised not to come to the hospital until the scene is cleared."

On January 26, an active shooter was reported at Building 26 at the medical center. A called said three gunshots were heard in the basement, but officials determined it was unfounded. Following that report, hundreds of military police aided by San Diego and Chula Vista police and Sheriff's Department SWAT teams scoured the area. Building 26 and another building were evacuated gradually and people in other buildings at the center stayed indoors until it was determined that there was no threat.

In February, Navy continued with investigations of 11 bomb threats made against Naval Base San Diego and BAE shipyards since November of last year. One threat was phoned in to a Southwest Regional Maintenance Center building in February. No threat was found, following an evacuation. NCIS and BAE Systems, a government contractor, are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of anyone involved in the threats.
