A remorseful Republican, Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin, apologized to Michelle Obama for reportedly saying she has a "big butt." Media reports say that the House member sent a personal note to the First Lady in which he expressed regrets for his "inappropriate comment."
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Sensenbrenner had referred to Mrs. Obama's "big butt" while talking to parishioners at a Christmas bazaar at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church in Hartford Wisconsin earlier this month. Ann Marsh-Meigs, who attends the church, told the newspaper that she heard Sensenbrenner's remarks that were made in reference to Mrs. Obama's efforts to address childhood obesity and overeating. Reflecting on her efforts, Sensenbrenner reportedly said of Mrs. Obama, "And look at her big butt."
Congressman Sensenbrenner added further insult by allegedly regaling listeners with his account of the remarks as he waited at the Delta Crown lounge at Reagan National Airport just outside of Washington DC. Of Sensenbrenner, Ms. Marsh-Meigs said "How dumb can you be?" according to POLITICO.
Michelle Obama's press office didn't immediately return a request for comment, while the congressman's office would not release a copy of the note of apology.
