At least eight persons were injured at ski resort in the Republic of Georgia when a ski lift malfunctioned and threw hapless skiers into the air. The graphic video showed that the ski lift, which appeared to be operating at an unusually high rate of speed, threw skiers from their chairs as onlooker shouted in horror.

At the bottom of the lift, some skiers managed to jump on their way down after dangling from their hands. Other skiers were seen thrown into the snow and cowering as the lift chairs hurtled over their heads.

The incident occurred at the Gudauri ski resort in the Caucasus mountains, near Georgia’s border with Russia. Georgia’s Minister of Health, Labor and Social Affairs, Davit Sergeenko, said at a press conference that eight people were hospitalized in Gudauri. One was soon discharged. "Fortunately, there are no casualties or serious injuries," Sergeenko said. One of the injured is from Ukraine, while another is from Switzerland. The rest are Georgian.
