Two adolescent black females have been arrested after a video emerged on social media that depicted their attack on a 62-year-old disabled white man in Syracuse, New York. A viral post on Facebook showed a group of teens punching the man and knocking him down in front of his home.

The victim told local police that he was assaulted on October 19 when he asked the group of teenagers sitting on his lawn to leave. A cellphone camera recorded the confrontation that ensued. One of the girls punched the man twice in the head, according to local WSTM-TV News. When he tried to pursue her, another girl spun him around while the other teenagers laughed. One of them recorded the incident with his cellphone. There was no video of what preceded the assault.

The man fell down face first when he stumbled after giving chase. His cane fell away from him. So far, the graphic video of the alleged assault has had more than 1 million viewers. The video has spread so broadly, according to the victim, that relatives in Ireland have reached out to the man in solidarity.

Two girls, ages 14 and 15, have been arrested by local police and are now facing third-degree assault charges. The teens have not been identified by authorities because they are minors. The have received a  summons for a court appearance but have been left to the custody of their parents. WSTM reported that the mother of one of the girls wants to apologize for her daughter’s behavior. She claimed that the girl will face consequences for her actions.

The victim said he suffered a bruised eye but continues to heal since the attack.
