In Ada, Oklahoma, a heroic gun owner shot his neighbor dead after the latter attempted to drown his own three-month-old twins on June 2. Leland Michael Foster was trying to submerge the babies in a bathtub while holding off their mother with a knife. Cash Freeman fired twice when Foster refused to end his rampage.
It was Foster’s 12-year-old granddaughter who told Freeman of the rampage. At about half-past noon on Friday, he rushed to the home. In a desperate call to police, the baby mama said that Foster was threatening to kill her with a knife while drowning the her twins.
In a statement to local media, Ada Public Information Director Lisa Bratcher said that the mother was screaming and pleading for help on the telephone. Bratcher said Freeman went into the home with a revolver and shot Foster dead. Questioned by police, Freeman was later released. Information officer Bratcher said his actions will be reviewed nevertheless by the district attorney's office to determine whether he will face charges.
The baby boy and girl were taken via helicopter to Ada’s Mercy Hospital and then transferred to Oklahoma City Hospital. They are in stable condition and will be released soon.
According to court records, Foster had a record of arson and domestic abuse by strangulation.
