Grover Norquist, who is influential among conservatives and the president of Americans for Tax Reform and the primary promoter of the Tax Payer Protection Pledge, tweeted on April 27 several times about Bruce Jenner – the former Olympic gold-medal winner who has been undergoing a sex change. In one of his tweets, Norquist wrote in an April 26 tweet “I spoke with Bruce Jenner at a Hollywood “Friends of Abe” dinner. He is a solid Reagan Republican. Good on taxes. Leave him alone.”
Jenner’s announcement in an interview with Diane Sawyer on April 23, that “Yes, for all intents and purposes, I'm a woman”. He cited problems with his gender identity that he had had since childhood as bringing him to the decision to take the step to identify as a woman and undergo breast enlargement and to dress as a woman.
Jenner won the gold medal in the decathlon event at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He instantly rocketed to fame, adorning college dorm rooms with his likeness on posters as well as boxes of Wheaties cereal. He had a sputtering career in Hollywood and three failed marriages. His children and two former wives have expressed support for his new gender identification.
