During his speech at the Detroit Economic Club today, Donald Trump told listeners that under a Hillary Clinton presidency Americans will see even more economic devastation such as that which has been visited upon the Motor City since the 1980s. Trump said, "The city of Detroit is the living, breathing example of my opponent's failed economic agenda."
Interrupted several times by boisterous applause, Trump said "Detroit tops the list of most dangerous cities in terms of violent crime." He added, “These are the silenced victims whose stories are never told by Hillary Clinton, but victims whose suffering is no less real or permanent." Without law and order, Trump said while praising law enforcement officers, economic development is not possible.
Trump claimed that Clinton's economic policies would be a continuation of what he called President Barack Obama’s "job-killing, tax-raising, poverty-inducing" agenda.
"The one common feature of every Hillary Clinton idea is that it punishes you for working and doing business in the United States. Every policy she has tilts the playing field towards other countries at our expense," Trump said.
Protesters at the venue interrupted Trump several times, but were quickly escorted out. Entry to the private event was limited to paid ticket holders. Approximately 1,000 people attended. All of the protesters were women who were organized by the Michigan People’s Campaign.  One woman shouted before being expelled, “How are we supposed to raise our families without good jobs? Is that what you call winning?”
Trump read from a teleprompter, which differs from his usual method of speaking in an impromptu style. Even though he was interrupted several times during his speech, he merely responded “thank you” as his supporters shouted down his detractors.
In some media, bias against Trump was evident. At an article about the event published by the Huffington Post, the following was found:
"Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S."
