Senator Elizabeth Warren, the junior Democrat representing Massachusetts, was a guest on ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ on Friday night. Host Bill Maher asked her to comment on President Donald Trump and her Republican colleagues in the Senate. When Maher pointed out that supporters of the President do not support her, she fumbled for an answer. It was then that Maher said, "And I like you, Pocahontas," to her face.
During the 2016 presidential race, Donald Trump referred to Warren as "Pocahontas" over her claims to boast of Native American ancestry. On Friday, Trump reiterated the gibe while addressing conferees of the National Rifle Association.
Here follows a transcript of "Real Time with Bill Maher":
Bill Maher: “His (Trump’s) fans are not with you.”
Elizabeth Warren: “Hold on…when when we talk about…”
Bill Maher: “And I like you Pocahontas”
When the audience erupted in laughter and guffaws, Warren appeared to be unusually at a loss for words. She looked back at Maher, apparently stunned.
Warren was on the show to tout her new book, "This Fight is Our Fight," which some observers consider as a nascent platform for a 2020 presidential bid. President Trump himself believes she will be contender during his re-election campaign. As for Trump, he has already registered as a candidate in the 2020 race.
