Lieutenant Stu Miller of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office in Idaho wrote on Twitter that a 29-year-old mother was apparently shot and killed by her toddler son on December 30. Miller tweeted "Prelim investigation shows shooting was accidental," of the tragedy that occurred in Hayden, a town located north of Coeur d'Alene. He did not say whether or not the woman was killed by a child.

However, KREM-TV in Idaho reported that the woman had been  at a local Walmart store with four children. One of the children, who is reportedly a two-year-old boy, grabbed a pistol from the woman’s purse. The firearm discharged and killed the mother at approximately 11:15 AM.

A spokesperson for Walmart said that the chain is cooperating with the Kootenai county sheriff in the investigation. Currently, the store is closed until further notice. The victim was in possession of a concealed weapons permit.
