Conservative activist Candace Owens visited Broward County, Florida, to see how illegal aliens are faring at a detention facility managed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In a passionate video, Owens said she had come with a film crew, adding:  “I am touring the ICE immigration center in Florida....YES children are being mistreated.”

Seeking to dispel the narrative being broadcast by progressives, Democrats, and immigration advocates, Owens of Turning Point USA began by saying, “I hope this is the most viral Periscope video that I do.” Saying that she was “incensed, horrified and angry” by what she saw in the facility, Owens went on to describe the ameneties being enjoyed by the illegal alien inmates.

“Children are being mistreated in this country,” Owens said. “They are not the children that are sent to ICE Immigration centers. They are the children in Chicago, in Baltimore, in Detroit. They are the children that are being ignored while the leftists drum up a bulls**t narrative that these immigration centers are somehow harming people.”

Owens described the library, nurse’s station, library, beach volleyball court, colorful decorations, and nutritious food being enjoyed by the inmates at taxpayers’ expense. She said that the facility was far more commodious than the public schools she attended in Connecticut.

Having used some salty language, Owens said, “I usually don’t rant like this.” Owens said, “I’m infuriated for the children of America who nobody gives a shit about on the left! While they have their fake paid protesters, that are pretending that people inside here are going through anything – and it is nicer than any public school system that I have ever seen in my life! That is the truth.”

While she admitted that she does not believe children or illegal aliens should ever be mistreated, she railed against Democrats for their criticism of the Trump administration’s immigration policies. “Democrats, you should be disgusted with yourselves! You have caused mayhem, you caused people to be protested, boycotted, attacked, violently attacked” over something that wasn’t really happening.” Owens said, “Blow up this Democrat lie!”

“These people are treated better than any of our kids in inner cities!”

Owens is seen in the video at the Broward Transitional Center, which is operated by the for-profit GEO Group. The business receives millions of dollars in government contracts to operate a number of prisons, detention centers, and mental health facilities in the US, UK and South Africa.

DHS depleted

On Wednesday, officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency insisted that the agency's transfer of nearly $10 million of its budget to ICE will not affect the agency's hurricane and other disaster relief efforts. During a briefing on Hurricane Florence, FEMA associate administrator for the Office of Response and Recovery told reporters, "We have plenty of resources, both monetary, staff and commodities, to respond to the storm," and added, "We have plenty of resources to respond, plenty of resources to recover. That has not impacted our situation whatsoever."

FEMA Administrator Brock Long told ABC News, "It does not come out of the disaster relief fund that funds everything behind me and in the field, so it's a non-issue for us at this moment."

The FEMA money will be spent on immigrant detention and deportation efforts, which have already been depleted, according to DHS. A document released by Oregon Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley, an outspoken critic of President Trump's immigration policy, showed that money intended for FEMA budgets for travel, training, public engagement and information technology work will be transferred to DHS. "FEMA will curtail training, travel, public engagement sessions, IT security support and infrastructure maintenance, and IT investments in the legacy grants systems for transition to the Grants Management Modernization Program," the document says. FEMA's budget originally was $1.03 billion. The amount transferred is around $9.755 million. The disaster relief budget is valued at $25 billion in it, DHS says.
