On Tuesday, Project Veritas released an undercover video that was recorded at a polling place in Texas where an election official apparently says that “tons” of beneficiaries of the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) voted in the current midterm election. Posing as a girlfriend of a potential DACA voter, the undercover journalist went to Travis County, Texas, where she asked election officials whether he could vote.

"If he has his ID that’s all he needs. If he’s registered," said an official to the journalist. The Project Veritas journalist replied, "Right. It doesn’t matter that he’s not a citizen?" and added that she had read on the internet that her boyfriend could not vote. The official responded, "No, Don’t pay any attention to that. Bring him up here."

A woman who also appeared to be a election official told the journalist that there is no problem with DACA recipients voting. She said, "we got a lot of 'em." When the journalist asked, "You've got a lot of them?" the woman answered, "Mmhmm, From early voter. We've got tons of them. Tons of DACA voters. Okay."

Founded by James O'Keefe, Project Veritas has posted several undercover videos in recent days that exposed campaign workers and candidates in six tight races. O’Keefe and Project Veritas have targeted Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, Tennessee Senate candidate Phil Bredesen, Arizona Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and House candidate Abigail Spanberger. Project Veritas’ stated aim is to expose progressives and their ideologies in states President Donald Trump won in 2016.

Non-citizens who are legal permanent residents or illegally present in the U.S. may not vote in federal elections, according federal statute. In the past. some legal residents have been deported when they admitted to voting.

Austin, the state capital of Texas, is located within Travis County.

Subsequent to the release of the Project Veritas video, Gov, Greg Abbott of Texas tweeted that it will be investigated.
