A Jewish congregation in New Jersey is offering a reward for the return of a sacred Torah scroll that was stolen from its school. Containing the five books of Jewish scripture, or what Christians call the Pentateuch, the scroll has been assessed at a value of approximately $70,000. The priceless scriptures were stolen from a Jewish school in the Lakewood community of New Jersey.

The scroll was kept in a locked safe, which was removed by two criminals. The burglars were, however, seen by a surveillance camera. So far, they have not been identified. They entered the Cheder Torah Zev school through an unlocked door early on the morning of January 29. The congregation is offering $5000 for the safe return of the scroll.
