President Donald Trump has proposed shifting at least half of a food stamp recipient's monthly benefit from a monetary payment to a box of healthy, homegrown food. Nearly half of Americans believe it’s too easy to get food stamps and are open to this new plan.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 49 percent of American adults favor Trump’s plan to subsidize Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits with a monthly box of shelf-stable food, including pasta, cereal, shelf-stable milk and canned produce, the so-called “America’s Harvest Box.” Thirty-six percent oppose that plan, but 15 percent are undecided.

The survey was conducted on February 13-14 among 1,000 American adults.
