Author and provocateur Ann Coulter wrote “In Trump We Trust” and said during the presidential campaign that she worships Trump as do the “people of North Korea worship their Dear Leader – blind loyalty.” Last year, she said she was a single-issue voter and drawn to support him because of his “Mexican rapist speech” and call for a border wall.
However, on Sunday in an interview with The Daily Caller, Coulter said that she is preparing to jump off the Trump train even though she still has some hope left. When she was asked whether she trusts the president, in view of the fact that no border wall has materialized, Coulter “I’m not very happy with what has happened so far. I guess we have to try to push him to keep his promises. But this isn’t North Korea, and if he doesn’t keep his promises I’m out. This is why we voted for him. I think everyone who voted for him knew his personality was grotesque, it was the issues.”
Referring to a New York Times op-ed, she said she agreed with author Frank Bruni’s Sunday piece, and asked, “Where is the great negotiation? Where is the bull in the china shop we wanted? That budget the Republicans pushed through was like a practical joke… Did we win anything? And this is the great negotiator?”
Coulter said that she still believes in “Trumpism” and that she has no regrets for supporting him. “We had no choice. Yeah, I mean, my fingers are still crossed. It’s not like I’m out yet, but boy, things don’t look good.” She added that Trump may still “turn around,” but admitted that she is nervous.
Coulter said that she has always opposed to any hiring of Trump’s relatives. “Americans don’t like that, I don’t like that. That’s the one fascist thing he’s done. Hiring his kids.” However, she said she understands that it is difficult to trust anyone in Washington, and that the Republican Party, politicians, and the bureaucracy opposed Trump.
Having likened Trump’s current presidential career to having a driver on a cross-country trip via car to Los Angeles suddenly announce a detour to New York City. “If we just keep going to New York. Well again, I’ll say we had no choice, but the Trump-haters were right…It’s a nightmare. I can’t even contemplate that. Right now I’m still rooting for him to turn around and take us toward LA.” All the same, Coulter said she will not apologize to Never Trumpers.
As for obstacles to Trump’s agenda, she identified members of Congress as “swine.” When she was asked, “How much blame does congressional leadership deserve?” she answered, “I do, of course, blame Congress most of all. They are swine. They only care about their own careers. Who knows how much of it is corruption and how much of it is pure stupidity? People should start sending Paul Ryan bricks to indicate how much we want the wall.”
