Interviewed on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Harvard professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said on Sunday that President Trump’s lawyers are falling victim to special counsel Robert Mueller. “It seems to me that the approach last week of the Trump team plays into the hands of Mueller’s tactic to try at any cost ... to find technical violations against lower-ranking people so that they can be squeezed,” Dershowitz said.
Dershowitz’s remarks follow comments made last week by Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who recently joined Trump’s legal team. Giuliani told Fox News that Trump reimbursed his personal attorney, Michael Cohen, for a payment of $130,000 made before the 2016 election to stripper Stormy Daniels. On Sunday, Giuliani re-emphasized that the payment to Daniels (a.k.a. Stephanie Clifford) was intended to prevent embarrassment for Trump’s family. In recent days, Giuliani has been interviewed various times by various news media and has clarified his remarks.
On Sunday, Dershowitz said that Trump’s legal advisory team is “admitting to enough that warrants scrutiny,” but added that recent days made for a “bad week for both sides.”
