According to a poll conducted by Pulse Opinion Research and commissioned by NumbersUSA.com, voters in key swing states want to see reductions in immigration. The poll showed that almost two-thirds of likely voters in four key swing states support major reductions in legal immigration. The findings were common throughout a broad base of demographic groups, including Democrats, Republicans, Independents, as well as conservatives, liberals, moderates, Catholics, and Protestants.

Those findings are consistent among a wide swath of demographic groups, including Democrats, Republicans, Independents, conservatives, liberals, moderates, Catholics and Protestants. The poll sampled the opinions of 1,000 voters in Florida, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

The poll also determined that 46 of those queried want annual immigration reduced to either 250,000 or none whatsoever. In addition, 62 percent support cuts to 500,000 immigrants or less.

Key findings included:

  • 66 percent of respondents in Florida supported ending family chain migration, which is the policy embodied in immigration law that provides visas to extended family members of citizens and legal residents. Also, by a 2 to 1 margin, Floridians support ending the Visa Lottery, which is a random system of handing out highly sought after permanent resident visas;
  • 65 percent of Ohio respondents paying higher wages to attract Americans to fill vacant jobs instead of importing nearly one million new immigrants per year.
  • Approximately three-quarters of voters in Michigan and Pennsylvania said that businesses should be “required” to try recruiting Americans, particularly those experiencing high levels of poverty and unemployment, instead of accommodating the influx of imported foreign labor.
